The Yankees May Have Found Their Next International Superstar!

When the Yankees signed Yostin Peña ahead of the 2026 season, it barely made a ripple outside of prospect circles. But it could end up being one of the biggest international steals the organization has pulled off.
Originally signed by the Cardinals during the 2025 international signing period, Peña's deal fell through over an age descrepancy issue, and the Yankees wasted no time capitalizing, reeling in the 6-foot-4, 18 year old outfielder with loud tools. Less than a year later, Peña is off to a great start and people are beginning to notice. Just yesterday he was signed by super agent Scott Boras, which tells us that Boras sees something in the kid.
Peña has been one of the best players in the Dominican Summer League, and was a starter in DSL All Star game last week. Through his first 34 games, his slash line is incredibly impressive:

He's impacting the game in every possible way, showing the type of five-tool ability that immediately jumps off the page.
What makes Peña even more exciting is how he's producing.
Despite possessing tremendous raw power, he doesn't sell out for it. He combines an advanced approach with exceptional bat-to-ball skills, walking at a 14.2% clip while striking out just 13.6% of the time. That's a rare combination for a teenager with this kind of physicality. His 83% zone-contact rate highlights just how often he's squares up pitches, while his ability to use the entire field: 45% pull, 23% up the middle, and 32% the other way, shows a mature hitter who is driving pitches where they are.
The athleticism is just as impressive as the bat. Peña owns one of the fastest recorded sprint speeds in the entire Dominican Summer League, and it's translated directly onto the bases, where he's already stolen 24 bags. He's spent most of the season in center field, showcasing excellent reads and closing speed, but with his 6-foot-4 frame, he could find himself into a corner outfield spot. Even there, he'll have no trouble fitting in thanks to a strong arm that projects in the 55-60 range and outstanding instincts tracking baseballs off the bat.
Among all the Yankees' international prospects I've dug into over the past year, Peña has quickly become one of my favorites. The raw tools are obvious, but it's the combination of athleticism, baseball instincts, and advanced offensive approach that separates him.
You simply don't find many 18-year-olds built like this who can also control the strike zone, consistently barrel up the ball, and impact the game with both power and speed.
Of course, we've seen plenty of players dominate the DSL before running into tougher competition in the United States. That's why the next step in Peña's development will be so important. But if he carries even a portion of this production stateside, the Yankees may have found themselves one of the biggest international bargains of the last several years. He's already making a compelling case to join Wilberson De Peña as one of the organization's premier breakout candidates, and a promotion stateside next season feels like a lock.

As impressive as the production has been, we're still just scratching the surface. Peña is an athletic freak with a rare blend of size, explosiveness, and baseball feel, and he's nowhere near a finished product physically. As he continues to mature, gain experience and adds strength to his frame, the ceiling only gets higher. He's already one of the most exciting players in the Yankees' international pipeline, and I can't wait to see what he does once he arrives stateside.
