Wandy Asigen First Impressions

Elian Peña drew a lot of praise in domestic minor league spring training this year. At Dominican spring training camp, that honor went to lefthanded-hitting shortstop Wandy Asigen, who signed with the Mets in January for nearly $4 million. 

Asigen switched his commitment from the Yankees to Mets late in the process, so the Mets had to trade promising High-A lefthander Franklin Gomez to the Guardians for international bonus pool money to make the financials work.

Asigen is a more explosive athlete than Peña with a higher shortstop probability and high-end bat speed that puts him in good position to dominate Dominican Summer League competition this year.
