Over the last few years, much has been made about the struggles that Jasson Dominguez has seen from the right side of the plate as a hitter. While he had put up a good slash line of .241/.331/.446 for a .777 OPS in 2022, he registered a .707 OPS and .510 OPS as a right handed hitter in 2023 and 2024, respectively. During his first full season at the major league level in 2025 it wasn’t any better, with a .204/.279/.290 slash for a .569 OPS.
The underlying numbers were even more staggering for the former top IFA prospect in 25’ as he struggled to make contact, and when did connect, struggled to create any damage. Dominguez had a measly average EV of 87.6 MPH (27th percentile) with a 1.7% barrel rate (6th percentile), an xwOBA of .236 (4th percentile), had a ghastly zone contact rate of 75.5% (13th percentile) and struck out 32.7% of the time.

As a result, there was plenty of talk about whether the outfielder would eventually abandon switch hitting and solely hit from the left side of the plate, where he’s seen good success consistently over the course of his playing career.
However, in the minors this year, the Dominican native has turned many heads with the resounding success he’s had as a righty hitter so far this season. Through 16 PA, Dominguez is slashing .308/.400/.769 for an 1.169 OPS with 3 doubles and 1 HR and has made significant improvements in contact, power and quality of contact. His average EV has increased to 95.6 MPH (99th percentile), with a barrel rate of 8.3% (69th percentile), and an xwOBA of .416 (97th percentile). He’s also yet to miss a pitch he’s swung at within the zone and has only struck out 6.3% of the time all while being extremely aggressive swinging.
Swing adjustments Dominguez made over the offseason along with more reps from his less experienced side have allowed him to tap into elite game power, while simultaneously making consistent contact, that has produced elite quality of contact whenever he’s put the ball in play.

This is coupled with the fact that Dominguez has been able to hit the ball pull side in the air frequently. Though he has not had the upper echelon EVs from his right side as he does his right side (105.8 max EV to 110.2 max EV this year), he’s getting the most out of the swing to generate fantastic game power hitting pull side in the air.
While it’s only been a 16 PA sample size from the right side, Dominguez has greatly improved his viability and floor as a player at the major league level once he returns to the show if these improvements continue to sustain. Dominguez does not need to be a world-beater from the right side of the plate, but if he can provide even league-average offense against left-handed pitcher, he may be able to break away from the platoon narratives surrounding his bat.

Every Prospect. Every Level. Every Day.

Very informative. Good read.
