Yankees Add LHP to 2026 IFA Class

Yankees sign LHP José Cruz from Mazatlan Mexico.

Cruz is a 6' 182 pound left handed pitcher. He's currently armed with a fastball sitting 89 MPH, Slider, Curve and Change up.

The talent pipeline from the Academia Alfredo Harp Helú to Major League Baseball remains busy this season. In a development that underscores the academy's reputation as a leading cultivator of Mexican talent, 17-year-old left-handed pitcher José Cruz has formally signed with the New York Yankees. This is the academy's fourth international signing in the 2026 class.

Originating from Mazatlán, Cruz has quickly climbed the ladder of prospect rankings. His signing follows a standout performance at the Rising Stars event in Cancún, where he impressed scouts with a unique combination of:

  • Maturity: A calm demeanor on the mound that surpasses his years.

  • Quality: A top-tier pitching repertoire that bodes well for his professional future.

  • Discipline: A dedication to hard work that is emblematic of the "Graduates Who Inspire" program.

As Cruz moves into the Yankees' farm system, he brings with him the aspirations of his hometown and the pride of an academy that consistently demonstrates that Mexican pitchers belong on the global stage. The journey to the Bronx is lengthy, but for this 17-year-old left-hander, the best is surely yet to come.

The road to the Show starts now.

Every Prospect. Every Level. Every Day.
